About

Lucie Olivas, a native of the San Luis Valley raised in Antonito, CO. is currently a senior at Adams State University. She will obtain her BFA in photography in May 2018. Taking her photographs and her new-found passion for ceramics, she brings the two mediums together to produce unique and one-of a-kind works of art.

The inspiration for her artwork includes family events, traditions, landscape, and her Hispanic heritage in relation to symbolism, memory, and nostalgia.  Lucie explores several aspects of storytelling from a personal perspective, revealing insight into her personal life. She produces artworks that aim to reveal distinctive stories. In her current exhibition, Spirit of Remembrance she reflects on nostalgic, precious, and distant memories using keepsakes, which have been slip dipped into ceramic pieces, old photographs, a cyanotype photograph, and a one-month pinhole exposure, she builds a visual world of memory and identity, of place and home.
